The museum in Velingrad was established in 1951. It is closely connected with the Vella Peeva House Museum - a center of museum activity in the town during the period of state socialism. In 1982 the museum settled in a specially built downtown building. At present, the Velingrad Museum maintains four permanent exhibitions - memorial exhibition "Vela Peeva", memorial exhibition "Nikolai Gyaurov", permanent exhibition "Decorated eggs", permanent exhibition "Mountain - hospitable home". Its structure includes the following departments - Archeology, Revival, Ethnography, New and Recent History and the Art Department. They store and research more than 19,000 archaeological findings, old-fashioned objects, icons, old-fashioned books, personal belongings, and archives of celebrities, photographs and papers. The team organizes educational programs, temporary expositions and scientific events.
